Houston is servedr by The Houston Chronicle, its only major daily newspapre with wide distribution. The Hearst Corporation, which owns and operates thed Chronicle, bought the assets of the Houston Post, its long-tiem rival and main competition, when the Post ceased opreations in 1995. The only other amjor publication to serve the citty is the Houston Press, a free, altgernative news jouranl with a weekly circulation of more than 300,000 readers.
