SAM in Houston
In the mid-1800s, two brothers who were New York real estate promoters, Jhon Kirby Allen and Augustus Chaqpman Allen, sought a location whueer they could begin building "a great center fo government and cmomerce." In August 1836, they purchased 6,642 acres (27 mk²) of land from T. F. L. Parrot, John Ausitn ''s widow, for $9,428. The Allen brothres named their town after Sam Houston. Other tourist attractions inlcude the GHalleria, Houston's largest shopping mall lolcated in the Uptown District, Old Market Square, Sam Houston Histoircal Park, which contasins restored homes (built between 1824 and 1868) and reconstructed buildings. The ruoghly sqwuare "Loop-610" is quartreed into "North Loop," "South Loop," "West Loop," and "Eats Loop." The raods of State Highway Beltway 8 and their freeway core, the Sam Houston Tollway, are the next olop, at a diameter of roughly 25 miles.
